Jess Knight - Fitness 3 Min Rough Cut

Jess’ 3-minute goes straight into the interview. He is sat in what looks like an art gallery, so it does not really set the scene. I really like the shot near the beginning of Jakes feet and them him running away I think this looks professional. There is a jump cut at 0:21 seconds. I would cover this up with B-Roll to make it run smoother.

She uses a good range of B-Roll and camera angles. She has used medium wide shots, close-ups, and long shots. One shot from the table to Jake holding the weights, Jess pans and I think this looks professional. I really like it.

The sound is quiet but consistent until 1:53 and then the frying pan comes on loud which made me jump.  I think a close-up would have looked less busy. Her video like her 1-minute ends abruptly. Overall, I think it is a good piece with a good range of cuts and camera angles. It looks professional. I would however like to see a different side of his face in the interview.

Jess Knight - FINAL 60 second vid

Jess' footage is very clear and shot well. I think she has a good establishing shot of Chloe in the park in her sportswear. This helps the viewers understand what is going on. I think the background behind the text is subtle. It is not too overwhelming. She has used a good use of stills to help depict what she is talking about and really brings the cheerleading into it as she could not get footage of it due to COVID I imagine.

She has used a match cut well of Chloe running towards her and then from behind Chole. Making use of camera angles in her B-Roll.

Due to being outside her colour grading changes backwards and forwards between light and dark, this is a little bit distracting. She has used text well to incorporate facts and add to her footage. I think if she were going to do this again, I would add in more camera angles of Chloe.

At 0:37 seconds she has some handheld footage, it is quite shaky. I think because its footage where she is not moving that maybe she should have been using a tripod.

Overall, I think this is a good piece. I think its informative, she has used the park well to her advantage and has using her text wisely.

Alex Morefield - I min video AMB1 Final

I found Alex's really hard to listen to. I found it hard to follow the story. I think this was because the lady, Di sounded very far away and was quite quiet. I think in post she could have raised the decibel level. I found some of the natural sound was overpowering her just a little bit. Good use of B-Roll to set the scene, this was a great substitute for an establishing shot. I particularly liked the clip on the woman skipping.

The background behind the text I found really distracting as it looked just put there. It would have looked better if the background was larger and maybe feathered out. She has continued throughout to include B-Roll of what is being said to create a image for the viewer. This works well.

Some of the construction sounds, sound like the beeping in McDonalds and drags on for a while. I'm not sure why its really there as it doesn't sound much like construction.

The natural sound from the road of the construction site at 1:00 minute is considerably louder than the rest of the video. To me the sound all through the video has no consistency.

I know Alex really struggles with editing software, I think for her first go she did really well. There is a good range of camera angles and shots. This makes it more appealing and keeps the viewer focused.

Rachael Adams - 3 Minute Draft

Rachael's 3 Minute starts of with a nice establishing shot of a car driving away. It sets the scene for a journey. The short story talk about students dealing with the aftermath of COVID, Lockdown one and two. Now how we as students are dealing with another lockdown. How this affects us financially and mentally. Rachael pairs her video with very subtle emotional music which starts to draw you in. She has a good use of shots including close up, extreme close up and pan and tilt. However I think she could of used more long shots and medium shots to expand her shot range.

I would also now begin to add in NAT sounds and breaks. There is a nice extreme close up of someone flicking through a book and I think that would pair really nicely with the sounds if the pages and adding that it wouldn't be too overpowering, just subtly in the background. Again like her one minute video there is a good use of text, not too much.

Even though there is good use of B-Roll I think it could be more wide spread, you have most of it clumped together in the middle. It would be nice to break Alicia up a little bit as the shot of Alicia doesn't change camera angles. However I think the interview is very good although a little shady, colour wise. I think adding an LED panel would of given it a little more light but not too much. The video does end quite abruptly, I think maybe the music could run just a little longer and and then fade out. But overall I think this is a good piece.

Rachael Adams - 1 Minute

This one minute starts off with a nice establishing shot of Rachael's mother, followed by a close up of her dog. It then follows on to her mother twiddling with her necklace with represents her love for her daughter. It gives this soft approach, almost tribute like even though her daughter is still with her.

I like the use of stills from the past as I feel like it gives the clip more emotional context. Her use of text furthers the context of the video.

I think if she was going to do this again then she could incorporate some more NAT Sound Breaks, although I understand why she hasn't because the lack of sound draws you into the emotion. If Rachael were to reshoot I think tidying the background would look smarter and if Caroline was sat on a proper chair, not slouched. However I think for the context maybe it should stay the same for that lived in, homey emotional vibe.

Rachael Adams - 5 Shot Challenge

Rachaels 5 shot challenge is shot in a kitchen. She has used  a variety of shots including; wide angle, close up, extreme close up and low angle. She uses a good range of audio however i think it it a little loud for the camera. I would say she needs to change her decibel level on her camera. I don't know what it is set to but to me it sounds liek maybe a 14dB rather than 11dB. However i might be completly wrong.

Update!! I have spoken to Rachael and she tells me that her camera is set to 9dB, however it was really nosiy that day so maybe changing it to a 6dB.

I really enjoyed her shot layout i thought it was very well thought through and clean cut. However i do think that the first two shots are very slightly out of focus/pixilated. I think if she were to do it again just make sure everything is completly in focus and check the decibel level. Other than that i think it is a really well thoughtout piece.
