Final Selection

Contact Sheets

From all of my shoots, I went through all my images on Adobe Bridge with my mum and we star rated them. I chose all the fours and fives and added them into one folder. We then looked at them again and widdled down some of the fours until we only had 33. I then decided before I chose my final images to get them printed via Free Prints as 6x4s. Once they had been delivered we spread them out on the dining room table and began to really think of my narrative, walls, signs and roads. Also making sure the images I picked were smaller images of the landscape. We then began to widdle down yet again. Using my contact sheets also helped my process as I could see them altogether a little smaller.

However we decided against some of the ones I had chosen on my contact sheets once we had seen them together on the table.

Final Selection - 8

These are my final eight images.

  1. Image One - I chose this image because it shows as how we human can easily say no! Blocking a path doesn't just say no to vehicles but also to buggies, strollers, prams, wheelchairs and other sources of mobility that can be used on a daily basis. Sometimes no comes to easy to humans. Like saying no to wildlife and yes to humans.
  2. Image Two - I chose this image because manhole covers aren't just an eye sore they are the lid to the underground of drainage and destruction of the earths ground.
  3. Image Three - Before humans, signs weren't necessary. Animals don't need directions as they rely on there instincts and own intelligence. This image doesn't just show one sign but three and a telephone pole. This isn't very wildlife friendly. They don't make the environment any prettier but they add to the litter!
  4. Image Four - This image I chose because of its simplicity but also because as far as human habitation goes, this is one of the most eco friendly looking signs but is it eco friendly.....not really because to make this sign a tree has been chopped down thus destroying the environment. Just because things look eco-friendly doesn't mean they are.
  5. Image Five - I find this image one of the most significant. Where this man is building there used to be a pub and garages surrounded by greenery and two listed trees. Although a pub and garages are built on land that as humans we have taken, we have now destroyed what had been left untouched and by add houses means more drainage and litter.
  6. Image Six - This image speaks to me. I purposely shot this with a shallow depth of field as I wanted to focus on the man made part of the image. Although the sky is pretty and the tree, this image also shows that man not only had changed the environment but also litter upon it.
  7. Image Seven - This wall speaks lots to me. It shows how as humans we mark our territory but also sometimes we don't need to keep changing it and leave the landscape to grow around making it less destructive.
  8. Image Eight - I chose image eight for a similar reason as image six. However I wanted to show our littering in a much smaller form. Its not just general waste like paper cups, wrappers and or bottles but its also the smaller items like shards of glass, bits of plastic and fag butts, these are the most harmful to our wildlife because of their size.

Archiving

I have only ever had to archive my images once before and that was for my portfolio for my university interview. However I didn't have to use archival sleeves. The box was also given to me and I didn't have to get my images printed from an outside source. So this was somewhat new to me. But this process has made me feel like a professional photographer and its really nice to see my images printed professionally and archived.
