My Narrative - How will it work?
In my narrative I aim to take my viewers on a journey. From start to finish. I want them to be able to view the landscape in small chunks and at different angles.
Formative Feedback
For my Issuu Book, I only had one formative feedback session as I have been behind. I only had a vague layout on Microsoft Word. I explained that I struggled with InDesign and Photoshop, which is why I had chose Word. John did explain that Word is limited in creative standards and that it wouldn't be his first choice as he doesn't get along with Work that well, however I decided to go with what I was comfortable I could produce as I struggle so much with InDesign and Photoshop
John gave me some good feedback in regards to my from cover, positioning of image and text size and font. We decided a slightly smaller image and text would be more beneficial. As for my layout, what I had so far worked well, however I explained I still have text to add.
John suggested I try and get it done as soon as possible to see if I could produce anything else so I have more than one layout to choose from.
Thoughts on my work being in a public domain...
I think as a photographer in the 21st Century, media access and advertisement is the best way forward. Everything is now online, with easier access and more time to do it. Having the public viewing my work, helps to motivate me to continually upskill my work and keep aiming to achieve higher standards and to compete with my competitors.
Currently I do have a website with Weebly, however I do not get on with the domain very well and I would like to transfer and update my work on another Webador site. Webador is much more accessible, cheaper to run and faster. I also post on my photography Instagram account. I would like to be able to update my work and upskill. I think an eBook is a great way to publish my photography, which could also lead to future employability.
Living in a pre-COVID world and hopefully when and if we live in a post-COVID world, I think our exhibitions would have been open to the public and we would have been creating our own books physically. If I could display them side by side, with a supporting statement, my name, and my business cards, then I think this would be much more intriguing to future employers such as photographers, publishers, galleries, and other artists.
Access to my business cards, could mean networking as well as future employability. It also helps if you are no longer stood by your work, if someone wanted to speak with you.
If I had a book viewing I would...
If I had the chance to get published and had my own book viewing at say a book store, I think I would exhibit a image or say a trip-tych alongside to showcase my photography on a bigger scale and to draw people in. I think this would help with sales and promotion. I would also leave business cards alongside my work, they could be picked up by potential clients and or employers.
How would I promote myself to a photographer vs the public?
If I was presenting to fellow photographers, artists, colleagues and or future employers or publishers them I would make sure I present myself in my most professional way and keep thigs to the point. I would make sure my contact details were very accessible, opposed to just the public. I would still keep a good level of professionalism, however I would feel that I could relax more and speak more freely.
File Transfer Protocol (FTP) & Cyberduck
File Transfer Protocol and Cyberduck enable me to upload my work to the university securely.
Problems/If I did it again...
- Whilst shooting my biggest problem was my camera settings, I haven't had my camera too long and I have still been getting to know my camera, this meant I went back to the Manuel that came with the camera and watched some online YouTube videos to show how to use the settings.
- Editing became an issue as I hadn't used Photoshop or Bridge in a while, fortunately our technician Matt helped me with some 1-2-1s which helped me use Camera RAW to edit my images easily.
- Sunshine, wearing my sun glasses made it hard to see my images during one shoot, this meant I couldn't really see what I was taking, it was a hope for the best sort of shoot. Luckily when i viewed the photos at home I did indeed still get some good shot but in the future I will try to go out earlier before the sun gets too bright and white washes my images.
- Shooting in the road, gave me some trouble because of cars and buses. I would just set up an image and I would have to move for a car, I didn't give up but this meant it took a while to get some of my images.
- File Transfer Protocol, at first I found this really difficult as I was unaware that I has to download Cyberduck first, which I struggled with.
If I did this again I would walk maybe two or three walks around the same area. I would like to see how that could change the series, or I would take just a few photos and then re walk and take the same things again at different times over a few weeks to see how they really change.
I would also like to try out more types of soft wear, for my book. I started on InDesign but I just did not understand it. I would like to do some tutorials and make my work even better and progress it.
