Problems/If I did it again...
- Whilst shooting my biggest problem was my camera settings, I haven't had my camera too long and I have still been getting to know my camera, this meant I went back to the Manuel that came with the camera and watched some online YouTube videos to show how to use the settings.
- Editing became an issue as I hadn't used Photoshop or Bridge in a while, fortunately our technician Matt helped me with some 1-2-1s which helped me use Camera RAW to edit my images easily.
- Sunshine, wearing my sun glasses made it hard to see my images during one shoot, this meant I couldn't really see what I was taking, it was a hope for the best sort of shoot. Luckily when I viewed the photos at home I did indeed still get some good shot but in the future I will try to go out earlier before the sun gets too bright and white washes my images.
- Shooting in the road, gave me some trouble because of cars and buses. I would just set up an image and I would have to move for a car, I didn't give up but this meant it took a while to get some of my images.
If I did this again I would walk maybe two or three walks around the same area. I would like to see how that could change the series, or I would take just a few photos and then re walk and take the same things again at different times over a few weeks to see how they really change.
How would I promote myself to a photographer vs the public?
If I was presenting to fellow photographers, artists, colleagues and or future employers or publishers them I would make sure I present myself in my most professional way and keep thigs to the point. I would make sure my contact details were very accessible, opposed to just the public. I would still keep a good level of professionalism, however I would feel that I could relax more and speak more freely.
If I could exhibit my work...
I think as a photographer in the 21st Century, media access and advertisement is the best way forward. Everything is now online, with easier access and more time to do it. Having the public viewing my work, helps to motivate me to continually upskill my work and keep aiming to achieve higher standards and to compete with my competitors.
Currently I do have a website with Weebly, however I do not get on with the domain very well and I would like to transfer and update my work on another Webador site. Webador is much more accessible, cheaper to run and faster. I also post on my photography Instagram account. I would like to be able to update my work and upskill. I think an eBook is a great way to publish my photography, which could also lead to future employability.
Living in a pre-COVID world and hopefully when and if we live in a post-COVID world, I think exhibitions would have been open to the public. If I could exhibit my work I would display with a supporting statement, my name, and my business cards, then I think this would be much more intriguing to future employers such as photographers, publishers, galleries, and other artists.
Access to my business cards, could mean networking as well as future employability. It also helps if you are no longer stood by your work, if someone wanted to speak with you.
1-2-1 with Jane
From my 1-2-1 with Jane I think I took away all her feedback such as changing my images to black and white to see how they look, do they look better? I chose to then keep them black and white because they really stand out and I think they look better.
We also spoke about what's going on at home, which I felt supported by and she gave me some tips to help my research and shooting go more smoothly. We discussed the detail in some of my images and how I should try and keeping shooting to show the detail in my images. Keep shooting how I was. This made me feel really confident about my work and my ability to keep going with it. At first Landscape wasn't my strongest suit and I didn't want to do it but by the time I had my 1-2-1 I was feeling much more confident about it all.
