Initial & Exploratory Ideas
Idea One
The Cotswolds have a significant amount of history and I would like to delve into it. In and around Wotton there is not as much Cotswold stone as there used to be. A lot of it is also covered up with greenery or has been driven into over the years. I will begin to investigate where I can find it and how to determine what is real Cotswold Stone vs fake Cotswold Stone. At this moment, the only way I know how to determine which is which is by visualisation of colour and irregularity. Cotswold Stone can be very orangey cream and irregularly shaped whereas fake is more yellowy cream and more rectangular. I will look at how the Stone has changed over the years and how it erodes. I want to use my images to create a visualisation of how the Cotswold Stone is changing over time. I enjoy photographing walls, roads, and signs to see the human impact on the world. I feel I can still realise this due to signs being on Cotswold Stone and getting road in the shots.
- Living in Wotton-Under-Edge (In the Cotswolds)
- Want to use this to my advantage, looking at the Cotswold Stone.
- Research Cotswold Stone, where can I find it?
- Where and how is the stone used?
- How can I photograph this?
- In Wotton, lots of the old walls around the roads are still Cotswold Stone.
- Map out routes to walk/drive to get to the Stone.
Reccie

This was my first reccie around the block, short walk. I am based roughly South East of Wotton-Under-Edge, but South West Gloucestershire.
Idea Two
- Map out one walk around Wotton-Under-Edge
- Walk it once with dogs (use phone)
- Next time take my camera
- 25th Feb - Deadline = 13 Weeks
- Photos shot before week 10
- Shoot 1-2 walks each week at various times
In my first year of College I completed a Zine project called 'Walk, Record, Repeat). This meant we had to walk a few walks where we had easy access and chose one walk. Over the period of the project we had to complete 5-6 walks of the same route and try for different times of the day. Once all the walks were completed we looked at all of the images as a whole and edited them into a story for our Zines. When I completed this I was a amateur photographer and had only just got my first camera.
Now I would like to do this again, with a different route and as a more experience photographer with a mirrorless camera vs a DLSR as I used before. This time round I would also like to focus on the walls, signs and roads. I have always had an interest, and I think it is because they all help lead to some where. I can look at the human impact on the world but hopefully still show the beauty in it.
By focusing on walls, signs and roads i can look at the human impact of the environment in my immediate surroundings.
Reccie

This was my second reccie, I walked around the block the other side. This route has more walkways, and signage.
