Exhibitions
Gallery vs Exhibition
A gallery is the building or venue, an exhibition is somewhere, where artists can hand and display their work in a public or private setting.

Group Exhibition vs Solo Exhibition
A group exhibition is a display or artists work, that they collaborated on to create. Group exhibitions can be one group but also twelve groups, depending on space and who is interested. A solo exhibition could be one photographer being exhibited at a time, for example MOMA, or The Tate Modern. They could have the whole floor and or building to themselves. Visitors would be turning up just to see that particular artists work. For example Wolfgang Tillman's.

What is an Installation?
Installations are large-scale, mixed-media constructions opposed to photography. Because of their large scale they often take up a whole room or floor, which mean they are more than likely solo exhibitions. They are also 3D.

How could the exhibition at the end of the module influence my future employability?
In a post COVID-19 world, the exhibition would be open for the public to come and view, alongside potential art buyers, photographers, employers etc. If this was on the table to happen then we would be cleaning up the campus for a showing, this means, properly painting, filling and sanding. I would also add my business cards beside or underneath my work, alongside my artist statement. This could open up an opportunity for future employability or credibility depending on who turned up.
An exhibition could lead to potential...
- Collectors
- Buyers
- Future employers
- Other photographers
- Credibility
- Networking
If I knew I was present to non artists only, I would change my artist statement to support that. I would make my narrative as clear as I could.

My final three images, hung at exhibition. Hardwick Campus.
How would an exhibition compliment my book?
If my book was exhibited alongside my images, it would almost be like the prints would be a sneak peak inside the book and let people know if it would be worth looking at or buying the photobook.
In-depth research on historical and contemporary contexts of the gallery as a medium.
Exhibitions have been public since the 19th Century, but their was previous attempts such as 'The Paris Salon of The Académie des Beau-Arts from 1667-1737'. Exhibitions have provided critical tools to help open our eyes to cultural debates. One of the first exhibitions was in 1851, The Great Exhibition in Hyde Park, London. Queen Victoria opened the exhibition. Over 5 months it saw over six million people. This exhibition exhibited one lithograph that helped change photography, Crystal Palace.
Exhibitions fathered trade shows such as Olympia Horse Show and Expo cart. One top fact from Expo cart - A brands perception can fall by 5% by simply not attending a trade show.
