002 - Initial Planning and Research
Notes 1 - 17th - 21st Feb 2022
Idea
- Revise a old project of mine, called ‘I'm too young to be ill’.
- This project was about showing that my invisible illnesses are real through self-portraiture, staged and candid shots around my house and the places I visit.
- I want to reimagine this project as it has been 4 years and I have learnt many new skills since then which I would like to explore and create a new body of work that not only creates a story of the invisible me but is a advocate for others suffering.
- I think I we be able to create a much better project and turn it into a book.
Format
I will defiantly be shooting digitally due to shooting self-portraiture which I know I will be taking lots of images whilst getting my settings right and I feel as though shooting film would be a waste of time and money. If this was a long standing project initially I would shoot on fil as well as digital to give myself an idea of what it looked like both ways and then I could chose whether or not to do either or, or a combination.

Planned Output
- A printed book, containing not less than 35 separate and distinct images on a singular theme, your book can be hand-made if you wish, but it is suggested that you publish your book via Blurb or other POD printers, which will save you considerable time and stress.
- Hardcover Image Wrap
- Standard Paper
- Remove Blurb Logo
- Bookwright
I have decided to use Blurb again because I found it very useful, appropriate and user friendly. I also found that InDesign is not very user friendly and found it extremely hard to navigate, however Bookwright is very user friendly and know I understand how to use it I think I can be more creative with it.
For Reflections On The Real I chose Hardcover Dust Jacket, Premium Luster Paper, and to remove the Blurb Logo. From this I now know that I don’t like the Dust Jacket as the edges are too easily worn. Next time I would like to use a Image Wrap to keep better conditions.
I have chosen a book as my planned output with the possible addition of an A1, 2 or 3 Image alongside. As much as I enjoy seeing my work framed and mounted, I’ve never enjoyed going to galleries as much as I like looking through photobooks so for me, I am siding with personal preference.
My choice to remove the Blurb Logo comes because I feel as though a book without a company logo of the publisher is more professional and the blue logo in my opinion ruins the end of the book.
Potential Issues
1. COVID-19 – Unlikely Lockdowns and restrictions.
2. Own personal health – days where I can't produce work.
3. Unpredictable weather, like storms
4. Not enough studio slots
5. Lack of studio experience
6. Car problems
